Persistence of vision explained. Persistence of vision traditionally refers to the optical illusion that occurs when visual perception of an object does not cease for some time after the rays of light proceeding from it have ceased to enter the eye. The illusion has also been described as "retinal persistence", "persistence of impressions", simply "persistence" and other variations. Series Title: A Dell book: Responsibility: John Varley ; . I enjoyed the scientific parts of Persistence of Vision. The narrator just didn't seem to fit the story and the dialogue was stilted and not we'll written. I think the story itself could have been very good if it was written better. I don't know if this was one of Liesel K. Hill's earliest novels.

The Persistence of Vision is one of the best short stories around, the ideas in it stuck with me for a very long time. It involves the creation of a unique society by people with physical disabilities. The book includes other great stories too. It is a great way to get to know Varley's writing/5.

The Persistence of Vision Paperback – by John Varley (Author)/5(31). 'Persistence of Vision' combines his love of Hollywood's Golden Age, the classic noir style, and a passion for California's Mojave Desert, specifically the Joshua Tree area.

An avid reader, he enjoys all literature, but particularly the detective/mystery genre. 'Persistence of 5/5(9). The Persistence of vision Hardcover – by John Varley (Author)/5(31). It's too much to review all the stories, so I'll focus on the one with the same title as the book, Persistence of Vision.

This story could keep a (very open-minded) book club busy for at least a year. The very basic idea is communication without sight or hearing/5(31). The Persistence of Vision evokes a wide range of emotions and incorporates multiple worldviews into a coherent yet surprising narrative.

I finished this book close to two weeks ago, and I had to let it sit in the back of my mind for a while in order to process it and figure out what to say in this review/5.

Inspired by the tragic events of the Boyertown Opera House Fire and the Chicago Iroquois Theater Fire, The Persistence of Vision examines how even the most inconsequential moments can have far-reaching ramifications, and what the hope of redemption can drive a man to do/5(26).

The Persistence of Vision Finalist, National Book Awards for Science Fiction - Paperback. "Persistence of Vision," in my humble opinion, is probably Varley's most accessible, yet amazing stories all feature characters in a remote future, in which everything about the human body, and everything about human society, is completely mutable and within the ability of individuals to choose for themselves.5/5(5).

The Persistance of Vision collects nine amazing fiction stories—including the Hugo and Nebula award-winning title novella—that could only come from the mesmerizing imagination of one of science fiction's most renowned and respected : Penguin Publishing Group.

What I found in Persistence of Vision was a well-written, quite readable, and thought-provoking novel that defies easy classification, or even easy explanation.

Ever since Maggie and her brother were drugged and found in a hotel room with half a day of their lives unaccounted for, she's I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up enjoying Hill's debut/5. I recently saw this question on 5/5. Persistence of vision works because the human eye and brain can only process 10 to 12 separate images per second, retaining an image for up to a fifteenth of a second.

If a subsequent image replaces it in this period of time it will create the illusion of continuity.Persistence of Vision book.
